Meeting Iasi

I finally left this morning for Iasi! By "this morning," I mean yesterday morning. I have been traveling since yesterday morning at 11 (I had to ride MoEx since Mom didn’t love me enough to drive me.) It was terrible. I laughed at the old lady next to me who asked that we stop in the middle of the drive for a bathroom before we even started driving. Then about 30 minutes through I had to pee extremely badly. It was the worst experience of my life. I arrived at the St. Louis airport about 3 hours before my flight. I found my gate and sat and watched Flawless. It was about Michael Cain stealing diamonds from the London Diamond Corps. It was pretty good. Then I arrive in Chicago.
The flight was delayed about an hour. I entertained myself here by calling Mom and Dad for the last time, eating some fake Chinese food, and guessing which country people were from before they spoke. Then I went on the flight. It was about 8 hours long. Thankfully they had some movies on the flight. I watched part of Mission Impossible 3 and something else that I don’t remember. It obviously had a huge impact on me. I couldn’t sleep a wink the whole time. I had earplugs and a face mask and a pillow, but I still couldn’t sleep. I might take drugs next time.  I ended up in London about an hour and a half after I was supposed to. This was actually a good thing. I thought that I was going to be the last of the girls there, but I ran into most of them at the security checkpoint. This was very exciting.
The gates were weird. Our gate didn’t even open until 10 minutes before we were supposed to board. It was baffling. And the Heathrow airport is humongous! We had to ride a bus to the airplane and we were clearly the loud American girls. I like to think that we were amusing everyone else with our conversations. But we didn’t all sit together, so the flight was safe from us jabbering the whole time. The people sitting next to me were Romanian. I think the woman might have been talking about me. I pretended not to know Romanian until the very end of the ride when she handed my tray to the stewardess. Then I said multumesc (Romanian for ‘thank you.’) Her facial expression was great.
The British steward was determined to give everyone their meal. I dosed off for a bit and when I woke up the meal was sitting on my tray table (halfway on the other ladies since I was sprawled across my table…) Apparently one of the other girls was asleep almost the whole flight, including when he brought the meal. He left it on her tray and then at the end of the flight, when they were gathering the trash he hemmed until he woke her up. This never would have happened on an American flight. I thought it was quite humorous. The British also offered tea and coffee for free. Unusual. *Note to self* I did not like the chocolate truffle, but I forced myself to eat it because I thought the lady next to me would be bad if I didn’t.
We have been chilling in the Buch airport for a while. We weren’t even allowed to go past security until about an hour before our flight. Weird. And you don’t have to take your shoes off. We finally made it through security. I talked to a nice lady behind me who was with a very, very attractive guy who spoke perfect English, but was from Huntington Beach, CA. He said he went on an internship here 13 years ago and never really went back. I thought this was very strange since he did not look close to old enough to have been applying for his Master’s degree 13 years ago. I hope for some odd reason we see him again.
Now our flight has been delayed for two hours, so we’re just chilling by our gate. We had internet for a split second from some guy named Greg’s phone. I sent a one sentence e-mail to Mom and Dad, but then the internet (Greg) left, or else had heard us saying “USE GREG!!!” and turned his phone off. Megan just fell off her suitcase loudly. Everyone looked. It was quite humorous.

Too many

"sometimes i can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives i'm not living" -jonathan safran foer

I want to go on a study abroad. One of my friends might do an internship at a hospital/orphanage in Romania this summer. I might join her. BYU's field study in South Africa also sounds appealing. I'm also thinking about going on a mission. Oh the choices!

And people say the youth of today are ruining the english language...

When Parents Text

Texting "conversation" with my mom this morning:

MOM: Am at conference so text me if u need me
ME: Haha, well hopefully I won't. You're terrible at texting back.
{5 hours later}
ME: I see what you did there.

Someone came in my office at work earlier asking who they should talk to to get information about paranoid personality disorders, I wasn't really sure, so I just sent him to a professor I knew was actually in the building and would at least know something about it and who else for him to get in contact with. When another professor came in my office to get something from the printer, I asked him who the best authorities in the department were on personality disorders because someone had just asked me. He let me know who would be best to refer someone to and then said "Is this actually for a friend? You're not dating him are you?!"

I thought it was rather humorous. I assured him that it really was for some guy who had just come into my office. I wonder what he would have said if it was for my hypothetical paranoid boyfriend.

Summer Lovin

Well...I'm back in Provo. Actually I have been for like a month, I just haven't written on here in a while. My new ward is pretty cool. It's a very unusual ward, though from my experiences with other student wards. It seems like everyone in the ward is dating/engaged to someone else in the ward. Usually people end up dating random people like kids in classes and friends of friends and once in a while people in their ward. Two of my roommates are engaged and the third is dating someone, so that's interesting. They're really great girls! My apartment is pretty sweet. Not having a dishwasher isn't as bad as I thought it would be either. One of my (Fall/Winter) roommates, Krislyn,  is coming out to visit this weekend!!! I'm pumped.

Saturday night I finally went to see Harry Potter. (I was too slow getting tickets for the midnight showing. :(  ) It was great! At least the part that I saw...Just as Harry was getting Snape's memories some lights started flashing in the theater and a voice cam eover the intercom telling us to evacuate the building. We came to find out that some guy was upstairs in the building with a lighter lighting something on fire and threatening to blow the place up. I don't think any of us really believed it was going to happen since the employees had to keep telling us to move back further in the parking lot. A buch of police and firemen came, but after about 20 minutes of waiting around outside for something to happen, we left. And that's why I still haven't seen HP...but I'm okay with it lasting a little longer. Afterall, this is my childhood. What else do we have ot look forward to in the Wizarding World of HP?

Last night was bogo night (buy on get one free) at Baskin Robbins. It's every tuesday, so freshman year we used to call it tradition tuesday and go *every tuesday. And now that I live so close the kids in the ward like to go a lot. It was rather delicious, esp for being buy on get one, but there are other places I like better.

I just bought my ticket for the midnight showing of Captain America. I'm going with some comic book buffs, so this will be interesting....

*I skipped some due to schoolwork and money...

coding, coding, coding

So Lauren and I have just been coding all day everyday.

Okay, not really. We do three or four tapes in the morning, eat lunch, go lay outside and read, come back in and code three or four more tapes and then go to whatever we're doing that evening. Which this week has been a lot of institute stuff.

On Monday we volunteered at the Central Missouri Food Bank for the ward FHE. We're pretty much professional packers now. Then we went to our friend's and watched Clue. I had never seen it before. It's pretty funny. I can't believe I had never seen it before. I would recommend it.
Tuesday we went to Institute and talked about religion and politics, though there wasn't too much argumentation going on in the class...unfortunately.
Last night we went and helped make pinatas and candy bags with Mizzou's LDSSA for the pediatric unit at the hospital here. I may or may not have eaten two mini reeses. They are a weakness of mine.

Tonight we are going to watch Thor, I'll let you know how it is.
